Setelah kita telah berhasil menguasai cara memegang raket, menguasai footwork, dan seluruh teknik dasar (basic stroke) dengan baik, maka tahapan selanjutnya adalah membuat variasi pukulan. Dengan kata lain, pada satu jenis posisi yang baik dapat melakukan beberapa pilihan pukulan. Misalnya pukulan overhead, selain lob dengan sedikit mengubah grip dan arah raket/putaran raket, bisa melakukan pada posisi underhand (ke arah belakang) yang baik, selain melakukan netting bisa juga melakukan flick (pukulan datar). Penguasaan pukulan dasar dan variasi akan terasa sekali manfaatnya pada saat mulai bermain dalam game (hitungan). Berpikirlah menggunakan taktik apa agar bisa mematikan lawan dan memenangkan pertandingan. Berikut adalah beberapa tips dan taktik permainan:

Tunggal (Single)
=======
Pada permainan Tunggal, bisa dikatakan bahwa pemain berada di atas angin apabila selalu bisa: 1. Melakukan pukulan dengan posisi selalu berada di belakang bola. 2. Sudah berada di tengah lapangan sebelum lawan memukul bola. 3. Sebaliknya berusaha untuk cepat berada pada posisi memukul sebelum lawan kembali ke tengah. ~Dalam posisi ini artinya siap melakukan serangan yang mematikan~

Untuk bisa melakukan ketiga hal di atas, Pemain harus memillki footwork yang teratur dan cepat. Dan gerakan-gerakan yang cepat itu bisa berlangsung untuk jangka waktu yang lama, yang oleh karena itu diperlukan stamina yang memadai. Karenanya, footwork yang cepat, teratur, dan stamina yang kuat menjadi faktor yang dominan diperlukan seorang pemain Tunggal.

Ganda (Double)
=====
Permainan Ganda memiliki tuntutan yang agak berbeda dengan Tunggal. Seorang pemain yang footwork-nya kurang baik tetapi memiliki kecepatan dan reflek pukulan serta power yang besar, bisa menjadi pemain Ganda yang baik.

Walaupun penguasaan pukulan dasarnya sama dengan Tunggal, tetapi seorang pemain Tunggal yang baik belum tentu bisa menjadi pemain Ganda yang baik. Karena permainan Ganda memiliki jenis pukulan yang khusus. Pukulan cepat seperti drive, smash, return smash, serve, dan wiping (menyapu) adalah jenis pukulan yang wajib dan harus dipahami dengan terampil.

Dalam permainan Ganda ada filosofi yang berbunyi Siapa yang bisa menyerang lebih dahulu dialah yang akan menang. Filosofi Ini rata-rata dipegang oleh setiap pemain Ganda. Ini terlihat dalam karakter permainan Ganda sekarang ini yang menganggap bahwa pertahanan yang baik adalah dengan menyerang!

Selain itu Ganda adalah permainan yang mengandalkan kerja sama. Pukulan harus dirancang sedemikian rupa, kemudian mematikan lawan dengan pukulan hasil kerja sama.

Tips Memilih Raket Yang Cocok!

Bagi Anda yang ingin lebih serius dalam bermain bulutangkis, maka sebaiknya Anda harus lebih memperhatikan raket yang Anda pakai. Sebuah raket yang bagus, adalah yang sesuai dengan karakter permainan Anda. Pilihan raket yang tepat, niscaya akan turut membantu prestasi Anda.
Komponen yang tidak terlepas dari sebuah raket adalah senar, dan menjadi salah satu yang paling dibutuhkan dalam bulutangkis. Jenis-jenis senar pun memilki ciri yang berlainan terhadap efek pantulan cock. Kebanyakan senar memiliki ketebalan 21 ukuran dan diuntai dengan ketegangan 18 sampai 30 + lb.

Sebagai panduan bagaimana memilih raket yang baik, berikut adalah paparan ringkas spesifikasi dan istilah untuk raket bulutangkis standar. Spesifikasi berikut memang bukan patokan standar internasional, namun hanya sebagai pedoman umum saja.

1. Kelenturan Gagang (Stiffness of Shaft)

a. Medium (Fleksibel)
Pemindahan sebagian tenaga yang berpusat pada pergelangan tangan. Pemusatan energi untuk tungkai yang fleksibel saat raket diayun memberikan daya tolak lebih besar saat shuttlecock menyentuh raket. Jenis ini sangat baik untuk pertahanan (defensive) atau untuk mengontrol gaya permainan lainnya.

b. Stiff (Limited Flexibility)
Pemindahan tenaga yang memungkinkan dari pergelangan tangan. Tangkai jenis ini sangat dianjurkan untuk teknik permainan bertahan (defensive). Maupn permainan serangan (offensive).

c. Extra Stiff (Minimum Flexibility)
Pemindahan tenaga secara maksimum yang berpusat pada pergelangan tangan. Gerakan tangkai raket yang minimalis memberikan ketepatan yang lebih baik atas penempatan shuttlecock. Raket dengan tangkai jenis ini sangat ideal untuk teknik permainan serangan (offensive) seperti smashing, net kill dan sebagainya.

Alat dan Lapangan
=================

• Lapangan untuk pertandingan Tunggal umumnya berukuran 44 kaki (panjang) dan 17 kaki (lebar)
• Lapangan untuk pertandingan Ganda umumnya berukuran 44 kaki (panjang) dan 20 kaki (lebar)
• Tinggi net biasanya 5 kaki.
• Shuttlecocks alias birdies biasanya terbuat dari bulu angsa atau juga plastik.
• Raket adalah alat pukul birdies yang terbuat dari bahan ringan seperti, kayu, plastik, titanium, dan metal.

Objek Permainan
===============
Inti dari permainan ini adalah untuk memukul Shuttlecocks ke belakang atau depan melewati net/jaring agar dapat menyentuh bidang yang di miliki oleh lawan.

Peraturan dan Batasan
======================
• Pemain tidak boleh menyentuh jaring dengan raket.
• Pemain tidak boleh melewati jaring saat memukul birdies.
• Gagal melakukan serve di istilahkan dengan side out.
• Beberapa tipe pukulan yaitu lob, drop shot, smash dan drive.
• Point yang dicapai dalam permainan yaitu 21.
• Lamanya set pertandingan yaitu 2 atau 3 kali.
• Bila sebuah Shuttlecocks terbentur dan melewati jaring atau net saat pertandingan berlangsung, maka permainan akan tetap dilanjutkan.


Pukulan
=======
• Biasanya lemparan koin di pakai sebagai penentu siapa yang akan melakukan serve terlebih dahulu.
• Serve pertama harus melintasi jaring.
• Serve pertama yang mengenai jaring dan jatuh di lapangan lawan diperbolehkan.
• Sang pemberi service dan sang penerima service harus berdiri di dalam area service masing-masing sampai service telah dilakukan.
• Pukulan yang mengenai garis batas lapangan dianggap sah.

Net height - 5 feet
Shuttlecocks - Also known as birdies or birds. One type has feathers with a cork base, and the other is plastic with a rubber base.
Rackets - Made of lightweight material like wood, plastic or metal.


Object of the game
==================
The object of the game is to hit the shuttlecock back and forth over a net without permitting it to hit the floor in bounds on your side of the net.



Some general rules and terms
============================
1. A player may not touch the net with a racket or history body during play.

2. A birdie may not come to rest or be carried on the racket.

3. A birdie may hit the net on its way across during play and the rally can continue.

4. A term of service is called an inning.

5. A player may not reach over the net to hit the shuttlecock.

6. A loss of serve is called a side out.

7. In class games will be played to 15 points and a match is 2 out of 3 games.

8. Some types of shots are the lob, drop shot, smash and drive.


Serving
=======
1. A coin toss or spin of the racket determines who will serve first.

2. The serve must travel diagonally (cross court) to be good.

3. A serve that touches the net and lands in the proper court is called a let serve and is reserved, otherwise, only one serve is permitted to each court until a side out occurs. A serve that is totally missed may be tried again.

4. The racket must make contact with the birdie below the waist on a serve.

5. The server and receiver shall stand within their respective service courts until the serve is made.

6. Points may only be scored when serving.

7. All lines are considered in bounds.

8. In singles, when the server's score is an even number, the serve is taken from the right side. When the server's score is an odd number, it is taken from the left. (Serving in a doubles game is different)

She is now the national team's top notch, ranked 16. Her best performance was still at satellite-ranked tournaments. She won the 2005 Jakarta and Surabaya Satellite Challenges, and the 2006 Surabaya and Singapore Satellite Challenges. She is currently (September, 2007) ranked number 16 in the world.

Lin Dan (simplified Chinese: 林丹; pinyin: Lin Dan) (born October 14, 1983) is a men's singles badminton player from Fujian, the People's Republic of China. Lin is currently the most dominant singles player in the world stage, since 2004, he has been ranked number 1 in the world for two years, consistently winning many tournaments. As of October 2006, Lin Dan has regained his ranking as #1 in the world, after a short period of being ranked behind Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia.

Lin Dan won the 2007 World Badminton Championships in men's singles, beating Sony Dwi Kuncoro of Indonesia in the final to become the 2nd player after Yang Yang to win the men's singles championship back to back, after taking the gold medal in the 2006 World Badminton Championships. Among the tournaments he has won are the All England Open (2004, 2006 & 2007), China Masters, and also assisting China in winning two Thomas Cup in year 2004 and 2006.

Xie Xingfang (Chinese: 谢杏芳) was born January 8, 1981, in Guangzhou, Guangdong province in China. She is a female badminton player from the People's Republic of China.

Her first big title was won in the woman double event, with her provincial team mate Zhang Jiewen, in the world junior championships in 1998. Yet once she entered the Chinese national team, she switched to singles, in between two generations, the one of Gong Ruina, Zhou Mi and Zhang Ning, and the following one, which is now filled with impressive talents amongst which Wang Lin, 17, who just won the China Open.

Xie is currently in a relationship with fellow Chinese badminton player Lin Dan. Xie Xingfang and Lin Dan made a romantic moment when both together won the World Championship 2006 in Madrid.
